Olympics latest: Irish in action at Olympics, Rugby sevens team reach 5th place playoff

There's plenty of Irish interest this afternoon after a busy first morning of the Olympic Games in Paris.

The men's Sevens rugby team made the 5th place final after they beat the United States at the Stade de France.

They will now play New Zealand to try and secure fifth place.

Daire Lynch and Philip Doyle stormed to victory in their men's double sculls heat.

They have a semi-final to look forward to on Tuesday.

Joining them in Tuesday's action are Zoe Hyde and Alison Bergin - the pair came third in their women's double sculls heat.

The dressage is ongoing at Versailles - Susie Berry on board Wellfields Lincoln is currently 13th following a 33-point penalty from her tests.

Earlier, Sarah Ennis picked up a 38-point penalty with Action Lady M to sit in 24th.

Austin O'Connor will take Colorado Blue through his tests just after 3.50pm Irish time.

The Ireland men's hockey team opened up their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to defending champions Belgium.
