Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua 2: AJ changes gloves for massive rematch
Anthony Joshua will fight with different gloves in his World Heavyweight rematch against rival Oleksandr Usyk.
On Saturday evening, Joshua will be looking for a comprehensive victory in Saudi Arabia with the WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine heavyweight titles in contention.
However, Joshua will be ditching his classic ‘Rival’ gloves, alternatively favouring the foam-padded ‘Grant’s’.
With a knockout clearly in mind, Joshua will be keen to avoid a repeat of his first fight against Andy Ruiz Jr which saw him brandishing the Grant gloves. Ending in what would become a career-first defeat for the 6’6 Brit.
Keen boxing fans will also recognise Joshua’s heavy-hitting gloves from previous victories over long-term rival Dillian Whyte and the Russian, Alexander Povetkin.
In his 2015 WBC fight with Whyte, Joshua looked electric wearing the Grant’s. Dominating from the first round, Joshua finished the fight after a flurry of uppercuts which eventually left Whyte laid-out and unable to continue. Many hinted that the Grant’s suited Joshua’s powerful punching style.

By 2018, Joshua had added the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO to his title collection as he prepared to defend against Alexander Povetkin.
Joshua won the fight having knocked Povetkin to the canvas twice in what would become a comfortable victory. Povetkin left the ring stumbling after an onslaught from Joshua and his Grant gloves.
