Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shows true Manchester United colours and drops major hint on next job

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer showed his true colours when asked about a return to the Old Trafford dugout amid ongoing scrutiny on Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag replaced Solskjaer in the top job at Old Trafford after a lengthy search for a replacement. Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick both took temporary charge of the club after Solskjaer was sacked in November 2021 following three years at the helm - with no trophies to show for his efforts.

The ever-popular Norwegian has not yet returned to management after leaving United, but he might well be on the verge of landing his next job. The United hero is among the current favourites to become Norway manager as and when their 2026 World Cup charge ends with current manager Ståle Solbakken reportedly planning on retiring.

Solskjaer made a rare public appearance at the Oslo Business Forum, where he addressed a 3,000 strong crowd, even discussing a potential return to United and taking on the role as Norway's head coach.

"I'm a proud Norwegian," Solskjaer said according to Norwegian media outlet VG who covered the event. "If the question comes up, when Ståle [Solbakken] finds out that he doesn't want it anymore, I'm happy to enter into a conversation."

Solsjkaer's successor at United finds himself under scrutiny following a disappointing run of performances, despite winning the League Cup and FA Cup in his first two years at the club. Ten Hag has been questioned on style of play and, so far, being unable to challenge the top sides consistently.
