'Oh please!' ITV This Morning viewers mock segment as they're taught how to make chip butty

A chip butty - cob, roll, bap, or whatever else you may like to name your bread product - is often a staple for many. Whether it be from the chip shop or when you're not really sure what to have for tea.

And on Monday's This Morning, Phil Vickery was on hand to teach us how to 'perfect' the chip butty.

The TV chef showed co-hosts Phillip Schofield and Josie Gibson, who was filling in for Holly Willoughby after she tested positive for coronavirus over the weekend, how to get it right and also show them and viewers his favourite ways to 'pimp up' everyone's freezer staple - chips.

This included fully loaded chips with sour cream and salsa, as well as Gyros, and the classic mushy peas and gravy.

But as for the perfect chip butty, Phil says it is made up of 12 thick-cut chips, or 60g to be precise, with a drizzle of ketchup that has been placed between two slices of white bread that have been spread with butter.

"It does need salt and does need to be nice and hot," he added as Phillip and Josie tucked in to their own chip-filled sandwiches. "I personally would like a few more chips and a bit more butter," the chef said.

"Really? I think that's pretty good," Phillip said clearly enjoying his lunch before suggesting he liked 'a bit of vinegar' on his as well.

But This Morning viewers were a bit baffled by the segment.

@dondons100 tweeted: "Oh please. Do we really need to be told how to make a chip butty? Really? #ThisMorning."

"Wow. I'm learning how to make a chip butty. I feel like a kid again. Oh, and why aren't I in school right now? #ThisMorning," @SenorApple2014 sarcastically commented.
