Oh gets Celtic transfer exit chance as Genk kick off talks with fringe striker over Belgium move

Genk want a summer move for Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Belgian sources have confirmed that talks have already begun over a potential move. Genk are keen to land the South Korean international. They have made the 23-year-old, who netted five goals for the Hoops last season, one of their top targets. It remains to be seen if it would be a loan or a permanent move, depending on Celtic’s stance.

Oh played a big part at Celtic in the first half of the season but fell out of the picture after the January window, after Adam Idah arrived from Norwich City. Oh is also keen to get back playing to protect his place in the South Korea squad, after losing his place earlier this year. Celtic signed him for £2.5 million from Suwon Samsung Bluewings last January. The Hoops are keen to try and do a permanent deal for Idah although they have still to agree a deal with Norwich.

If that was to happen then that would leave him well down the Celtic pecking order, behind the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi. A number of Celtic’s double-winning squad could leave Celtic this season. Defender Gustaf Lagerbielke is wanted by Leece while Maik Nawrocki has interest from Legia Warsaw, The Celtic recruitment team are continuing to work on a number of fronts, apart from Idah.

They are in talks with Benfica to seal a permanent deal for Paulo Bernardo. They are looking to renegotiate the terms of their £6 million option to buy. They want to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace the now retired Joe Hart, a defender and a winger also remain on their wanted list.
