Octopus Energy's new rewards plan that lets customers earn cash from bills
Energy supplier Octopus Energy has revealed a new rewards programme that allows customers to 'get paid to use less energy'.
As part of the scheme, Octopus Energy customers are able to earn 'Octopoints' whenever they take part in demand flexibility schemes, including the supplier's Saving Sessions. These Octopoints can then be redeemed by customers for credits on their energy account.
The company also announced plans for the credits to be used in other ways, such as make donations charity, exchanging them for Octopus Energy merchandise, entertainment, and even food. Customers can also earn Octopoints by spinning the 'Wheel of Fortune' which can be done every time a meter reading is submitted and by referring a friend to switch to Octopus Energy or take part in its solar installations scheme.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product Officer at Octopus Energy, comments: “Our customers have been so passionate about earning Octopoints through our previous demand flexibility schemes that we’re very excited to give them even more ways to do so. With Octoplus, our savviest customers can now make their Octopoints go even further, converting them into brilliant prizes, merchandise and soon even more rewards through trusted partners.”
The Demand Flexibility Service was set up by the National Grid in the winter of 2022 to help incentivise customers to refrain from using electricity during peak periods. This aims to reduce strain on the nation's electricity supply and reduce the risk of any blackouts.
