'Nowhere near it' - Alan Shearer opens up on Marcus Rashford rant amid Manchester United struggles

Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer says Marcus Rashford's has been 'been nowhere near it this season' for Manchester United following his disappointing performance in the FA Cup fifth-round win over Nottingham Forest.

Erik ten Hag's men progressed to the quarter-final of the cup competition thanks to Casemiro's late winner at the City Ground. United looked a threat throughout the contest with Antony striking the crossbar and Scott McTominay also coming close to breaking the deadlock.

Rashford's difficult run of form continued, though, with the 26-year-old struggling to offer a threat himself. The England international played centre-forward for the Reds in Rasmus Hojlund's absence through injury but didn't enjoy much luck.

During the cup contest, Shearer was unimpressed with Rashford's body language after he threw his hands up in frustration after a failed move. "Come on Marcus, get up and stop waving your arms around," he said. "You have got to do better, too easy that.

"The ball is in front of you against the defender. You've got to hold the ball up for your teammates. I don't like his body language at times. Trying to send a message out to the fans, it's not my fault.

"You as an individual have to take responsibility every now and again for your actions on the pitch. Get up and get on with it."
