Novak Djokovic coach call questioned after Monte Carlo Masters exit

Former Olympic champion Marc Rosset has questioned Novak Djokovic in his decision to part ways with coach Marian Vajda.

Djokovic parted ways with the coach earlier this year and has since struggled, albeit in a season disrupted by travel issues relating to his vaccine status.

The Serb has previously parted ways with Vajda, which saw him endure a spell where he failed to progress beyond the last eight at any Grand Slam.

While Djokovic confirmed the split in March it is understood that they have not worked together since the end of last season.

Now Djokovic has reshuffled his coaching team with Goran Ivanisevic taking up a more prominent role.

Rosset is among those who feel that Djokovic is making a mistake.

“There is still something bothering me about Djokovic,” Barcelona 1992 Gold medalist Rosset told RTS.

“I’m curious to see what it will be like now that he broke up with his longtime coach, Marian Vajda. Because last time it happened, it didn’t pay off.”

Rosset believes that Djokovic is losing out on the insights of a man who knows him better than anyone else.

“We’ll see if he manages to be as strong as ever without his trusted man. Of course, Goran Ivanisevic will always be there, but it’s not the same lemonade between them. They don’t have that 15-year relationship or that closeness.”
