Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool: Awoniyi targets 10th EPL goal involvement of the season

Taiwo Awoniyi’s 47th minute winner against West Ham gave Nottingham Forest their first victory in the English Premier League for 23 years.

Taiwo Awoniyi will target his tenth Premier League goal involvement of the 2023/24 season when Nottingham Forest hosts Liverpool at the City Ground.

The striker will also go all out to score his second goal in four games against Liverpool who will visit Forest in a Premier League encounter on Saturday.

Awoniyi broke a record after scoring in Forest’s 1-0 win over Liverpool at the City Ground on October 22, 2022 with the Nigerian striker doing well against his former club.

He gave Forest a 55th-minute goal against the Reds after Steve Cook did well to collect the ball from a diagonal free-kick.

After Cook had delivered a low cross into the 18-yard box, Awoniyi initially turned the ball against the goalpost with his effort.

On the second attempt, he netted with the rebound and consequently, Awoniyi became the first Forest player to score in each of his first three Premier League starts at the City Ground.

Ever since then, though, the 26-year-old has featured in two Premier League matches for Forest against Liverpool, losing both, 3-2 on April 22, 2023 and 3-0 on October 29, 2023.

As things stand, Awoniyi who has six goals and three assists in 15 league games for the Tricky Trees this season will be desperate to avoid a third straight defeat to Liverpool.

Meanwhile, after returning with an injury from the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast where he helped Nigeria pick up the silver medal, Ola Aina is still missing in action.
