Nottingham Forest, Preston North End and QPR set sights on Newcastle United starlet
Nottingham Forest, Preston North End and QPR have all been credited with an interest in Newcastle United attacker Elliot Anderson, as per a report from The Sunday Mirror (03/04, p70).
The highly-rated 19-year-old, who is currently impressing whilst on loan with Bristol Rovers, nearly joined Luton Town in January, however, Nathan Jones stated that they did not agree a deal because there was not an opportunity to sign him on a permanent deal.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has recently spoken to Chronicle Live about the exciting midfielder, with the 44-year-old expecting there to be Championship interest in the summer.
Anderson has almost immediately emerged as a regular starter at Bristol Rovers in League 2, contributing with three goals and three assists in 14 starts for the Gas.
The teenager has primarily operated as an attacking midfielder in the south west thus far, however, he has also been deployed on the left wing on a. few occasions.
The verdict
Anderson seems to be one of the brightest prospects in the EFL at the moment, proving to be a level above in League Two already.
There is no surprise to see interest in the young winger and it would have been interesting to see how the 19-year-old fared up in the Championship if Luton would have signed him in January.
With the three clubs now credited with an interest, it will be no shock to see more second-tier outfits join the pursuit.
Anderson is very highly rated by Newcastle, meaning it could be very difficult for the clubs chasing his services to land a permanent deal, however, he appears to be someone who will be ready for the rigours of a temporary stint in the Championship next season.
