Nottingham Forest place former loan defender on targets 'list' ahead of summer transfer window

Nottingham Forest have Cyrus Christie on a 'list' of potential new recruits ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Christie spent the 2020/21 season on-loan with the Reds and was linked with a permanent move to the City Ground last summer, but instead the Fulham defender joined Swansea City on a temporary deal in January. Christie made 23 Championship appearances for the Swans having joined the Welsh side after Ethan Laird was recalled by Manchester United.

The 29-year-old scored three times and provided five assists during his time in south Wales, proving to be a useful part of Russell Martin's squad as they finished 15th in the league standings.

According to Sky Sports (12:30, May 14), the right-back has been included on Forest's list of transfer targets but is also 'expected' to receive the offer of a permanent move from Swansea City.

"They both want to stay," Swans boss Martin said about loanees Christie and Hannes Wolf to WalesOnline.

"It'll come down to finances. Both have sacrificed finance this year to come which shows their character. We'll need to do it again and I'm not convinced we'll get to where we need to get to. We'll have to really look at it and make a decision on that really soon on how far we're willing to go."

Christie's contract expires on June 30 meaning he will be a free agent for clubs to sign, although there is plenty of reported interest from Forest, Swansea and Watford in England as well as Turkish sides Konyaspor and Fenerbache.
