Nottingham Forest get green light to swoop for 'special' gem who's open to EPL move - report

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing former Wolves left-back Ruben Vinagre this summer, according to a new transfer rumour.

The Reds are now less than two weeks away from their return to the Premier League, in what is a hugely exciting time for the club.

Steve Cooper has enjoyed an excellent summer transfer window to date, bringing in a host of players, and it seems likely that more business will still be conducted.

Omar Richards and Harry Toffolo have both come in at left-back, but it appears as though they are looking at another player in that area.

According to O Jogo [via Sport Witness], Forest are interested in signing Vinagre on loan for the 2022/23 season, having recently completed a permanent move to Sporting Lisbon following his loan spell from Wolves.

It is seen as an ‘interesting possibility to complete the deal’, and the player himself sees England as a ‘good chance’ in his career, while his club are reportedly open to allowing him to depart on loan for the upcoming campaign.

While Vinagre is a good left-back who did well at Wolves – he made 70 appearances overall and 35 in the Premier League, while also being described as a “special” player by his former boss Nuno Espirito Santo – it does feel like potential overkill in that position if he also joins Forest this summer.

Although Richards is currently out injured for a stint, Toffolo has arrived from Huddersfield Town and should be a competent first-choice option at the start of the season, having impressed in the Championship last term.

If Vinagre does join on loan, it certainly wouldn’t be a big issue for Forest, but it is hard to see how Cooper would be able to keep each of him, Richards and Toffolo happy.
