Not getting lost in potential future upheaval at Wolves key for returning Matt Doherty - Keith Treacy

The Wolverhampton Wanderers set-up that Matt Doherty left three years ago is much different to the one he is returning to ahead of next season.

Back in 2020, Tottenham signed the Republic of Ireland wing-back off the back of being impressed by his performances within Wolves' back-three system under then-manager Nuno Espiritu Santo.

Two-and-a-half seasons plus six months at Atletico Madrid later, Doherty has returned to Molineux on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal.

But it's a much-changed club that have sold a host of players and are managed by Julen Lopetegui whose long-term willingness to stay at Wolves has been under scrutinty amid a relatively frugal transfer window.

Ultimately, however, the aim for Doherty will be to regain the type of game-time he has lacked in recent times and navigating potential future upheaval at the club, according to former Ireland international Keith Treacy.

"I just hope Matt Doherty goes there, gets his head down and gets into the team under Lopetegui," he told the RTÉ Soccer Podcast.
