Norway manager gives another injury update on Man City striker Erling Haaland

Norway manager Stale Solbakken has suggested Erling Haaland could have faced Scotland on Sunday.

Haaland went down with an ankle injury during Norway's 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands on Thursday. The Manchester City star received on-pitch medical attention and was able to finish the game but looked far from comfortable.

Concern in Manchester intensified on Saturday morning amid confirmation that Haaland would miss Norway's second Euro 2024 qualifier of the international break against Scotland, having suffered a recurrence of the ankle issue that forced him off against Bournemouth. The 23-year-old vowed on social media to be back fit as soon as possible.

"It's his movement in the foot that is his problem but it's not a serious injury," Solbakken told reporters on Saturday evening. "Had [the game vs Scotland] been a final, I don't know.

"Maybe Erling has talked to [City] but we haven't. Our doctor has made his own judgement on it and all parties agree it's probably a little bit too early, but it's not a career-threatening injury."

City will hope to have Haaland fit for next weekend's Premier League clash at home to Liverpool. Pep Guardiola already has a number of fitness issues to contend with, having seen Ederson, Nathan Ake, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Rodri all withdraw from international games in the last week.
