North Macedonia 1-1 Wales: Late drama preserves Craig Bellamy's unbeaten run as boss

As Bojan Miovski steadied himself to slot home in the 91st minute, Craig Bellamy's unbeaten start as Wales boss looked to be over.

But while much has been said about how the current boss has changed the tactical identity of his side, its character is what really shone through in Skopje.

With effectively the last kick of the game, Kieffer Moore nodded down for fellow substitute David Brooks, who duly tucked home to salvage a point for his side in the most dramatic of circumstances.

Wales might well feel it was the least they deserved. For long periods of this contest, Bellamy must have been largely satisfied with what he'd seen. .

Jordan James and Sorba Thomas both saw decent opportunities go begging in a first half they largely dominated, while Brennan Johnson saw an effort cleared off the line after the break.

Darko Churlinov came closest for the hosts, forcing a fine second-half save from Karl Darlow, and a goalless draw looked the most likely outcome before Miovski netted in stoppage-time.

But that late equaliser means Wales start their World Cup qualifying campaign with four points from a possible six, with Group J favourites Belgium lying in wait this summer.

Wales will need to find another level for that contest, but there have clearly been some positives for Bellamy from these opening two games.

While the result was pleasing, the win over Kazakhstan felt somewhat unconvincing at times. A functional and professional performance, sure. But the general feeling was Wales didn’t click into the same sort of pulse-heighting gears that had so driven much of the early excitement around Bellamy’s reign so far.

Skopje was always going to be a tough assignment - as the Wales boss himself knew all too well.
