'No rota here' - Ian Evatt's firm Bolton Wanderers team selection admission ahead of Salford City

Ian Evatt insists he will pick a Bolton Wanderers team which is the right one to beat Salford City and not give players appearances for the sake of giving them minutes on the pitch.

The Whites take on the Ammies at the University of Bolton Stadium in the first round of the Carabao Cup. It will be the first time the two sides have played since the 2020/21 season, where Wanderers came out on top in the two clashes in League Two.

Evatt made three changes over the weekend when Wycombe Wanderers visited the University of Bolton Stadium in League One. It helped to pay dividends as the Whites won 3-0.

But the Bolton boss is adamant he is in a position in the early stage of the campaign where he does not have to make amendments to his starting team. Chief in his mind is picking a side which will go out and beat the Ammies and not revolve around giving players in the squad time on the pitch if they have not earned it in training.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “We are at a stage of the season where I don’t have to do anything. I don’t have to make changes and I don’t have to pick the same team. Like always, I will pick a team that I think will hurt Salford and their weaknesses, and also be able to cope with their strengths.

"That is what we have done and we will do that with every game. There is no rota here where someone is due minutes that they definitely play.

"You have to go out there and earn the right to play. We will pick a team which we think is the right team to beat Salford.

"What that looks like, whether that is 11 starters from Saturday or none, I am not going to tell you. But we will pick a team that
