'No excuse' - Lee Bowyer nails Birmingham City's biggest issue in dour Hull City stalemate

Lee Bowyer lamented Birmingham City’s lack of quality in their 0-0 draw with Hull City.

Blues took a point and a clean sheet and will feel they created enough dangerous situations to fashion at least one clear cut chance.

However, despite making a bold tactical move at half time they were unable to test Tigers’ goalkeeper Matt Ingram and ended up frustrated.

“Not very pretty, two groups of honest lads working hard but I think the quality wasn’t there for both teams today,” Bowyer said.

“It was disappointing because we had some good players on the pitch. From what I understand the pitch isn’t too good, really bobbly but that’s no excuse.

“We got into some great positions, especially second half it was just that bit of quality, that final bit. If we can improve on that, I have said it a few times this season, if we can improve on that side of things we will create and score more goals.

“Onel was in, Gary’s pass – a simple pass and he overhits it. Then vice versa, Gary was in, Onel was in that postion and he overhits it.

“They are human beings, they can’t be perfect all the time and today we had too many that had an off day on the same day. That’s life.

“There were positives. We didn’t lose, we kept another clean sheet on a day when we weren’t at the standard we can be

“I changed it at half time, went to a back four, a bit risky out of possession when we lose the ball they could have hit us on the break, they had the two wingers and the wing backs so we were overloaded.

“I just left my three up front and said ‘I want to get Onel on the ball, I want to get Chongy on the ball against their two outside centre halves and Lyle against their central one’.
