'No chance' - Steven Gerrard sent clear Aston Villa instruction as Rangers transfer links emerge

Aston Villa fans have had their say after Steven Gerrard's former club Rangers join the race to secure Cameron Archer's talents on loan for next season.

Archer, 20, enjoyed a successful loan spell at Preston North End for the second half of the Championship which saw the young striker net seven goals across 20 appearances for Ryan Lowe's side, who have reportedly informed Villa they are ready to match any offer clubs put in for the prospect this summer.

According to talkSPORT, Gerrard's former club Rangers are also expressing an interest in Archer this summer. As well recently relegated Watford and their Championship rivals Middlesbrough.

SG will place him to whatever team will give the best progressive experience needed to his career. Hopefully villa will have a .player that can more than hold his own in the PL.

Not particularly a fan of this idea, while I'd like him to be at a team challenging for honours as such, he also needs to be challenged. Scoring 30 goals against players who have been signed from league 2 and the conference doesn't do that. Yes, there are a handful of European games, but is that in and of itself enough to justify the gulf in quality of the league matches compared to him going to a genuine promotion contender in the championship?
