Nigeria draws Burundi as U-20 Women World Cup qualifiers begin Sept. 1

Nigeria’s Falconets, having reached the semifinals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in three editions, will face Burundi in the second qualifying round of the 2024 edition of the global fiesta.

In the draws made yesterday in Cairo, Egypt, the Falconets would join the qualifying series in the second round due to their pedigree in the competition.

Nigeria’ fiercest rivals in women football, Ghana, will also join the competition in the second round, where they will clash with the winner of the first round clash between Togo and Guinea Bissau.

According to CAF, the first six nations with the lowest rankings will take centre stage in a round-robin format between September 1 and 10. Thus, Equatorial Guinea will cross swords against Libya, while Togo take on Guinea Bissau, with Mauritius facing off against Chad.

The victors of this round will then move to the second round of the qualifiers.

The winner of the Equatorial Guinea and Libya battle will face Ethiopia in the second round, but the battle of the round is the clash between Senegal and Mali.

The second qualifying round matches will hold from October 6 to 15, with the winners joining the third round of qualifiers scheduled between November 12 and 19, 2023.

The four countries that emerge from the next round will then face each other in a round-robin format to determine two representatives for Africa at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
