Nigeria, Algeria meet again as Sanwo-Olu hosts Falcons, Green Ladies
Nigeria and Algeria’s women’s national teams will meet in the concluding leg of their international friendly matches today, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos. The Super Falcons defeated the Green Ladies of Algeria 2-0 in the first of the two-legged tie, at the Remo Stars Sports Complex, Ikenne, Ogun State, with goals from Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade.
Both teams were treated to a special reception by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the JK Randle Centre, Onikan, Lagos Island.
Today’s game at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena will start by 2.00 p.m.
Speaking on their experience on the tour of Nigeria, Algeria’s Coach, Farid Benstiti said, the Green Ladies are on a learning mission with the aim of building a competitive team that can rub shoulders with the best in the women’s game.
“We have a young team and the players are trying to understand each other better with each passing game. We love this type of matches that help our telepathy and cohesion.
“Nigeria is a strong team globally and we are not ashamed to lose to them. However, I believe we will have a better game on Tuesday because we have learnt some things here today.”
His Nigerian counterpart, Justine Madugu, also sees the games as part of the process of building a new team.
“We are in a rebuilding process and I must say that a good number of the home-based professionals impressed me. Ajibade, as always, led from the front and gave us great balance going forward.”
