‘Daft and stupid’ - Alan Shearer blasts Manchester United's Marcus Rashford

Alan Shearer has described Marcus Rashford’s decision to go out partying after Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat by Manchester City as “daft”, and said he should have cancelled his pre-arranged plans.

Erik ten Hag branded the manner of the birthday celebrations “unacceptable” although refused to reveal whether he had been fined. The manager said the striker had apologised to the rest of the squad. It is understood Tyrell Malacia, currently out injured having not played since last season, also attended the party.

Rashford missed the 1-0 win over Fulham on Saturday after failing a late fitness test having picked up a knock in training the day prior. The England star, who turned 26 on Tuesday, has scored just one club goal all season.
