Nico linked with Prem switch as Barcelona eye deal to snare Wolves ace

Wolves are among a number of Premier League teams said to be interested in Barcelona star Nico Gonzalez despite the huge buyout clause in his deal.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Nou Camp giants after making his debut in August last year. Having come though the club’s youth ranks, he penned a contract in May 2021 which included a €500 million buyout clause. That figure was to protect the Blaugrana from clubs trying to take one of their most exciting youngsters.

However, the club’s financial situation means they are being forced into selling players that would otherwise remain in Catalonia.

Nico made 37 appearances in all competitions in 2021-2022, scoring two goals. He was handed 12 starts among 27 LaLiga appearances, impressing with his commitment and desire.

The youngster is not afraid to put his foot in, collecting six yellow cards during the campaign just finished. Many Spanish clubs have been credited with an interest.

And with the likes of Gavi, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets all at the club, his game time might reduce next term. He did see less action during the second half of last season.

And, with ambitions to play for the Spain national side, that is not something that will sit well with the starlet. He has won three Spain Under-21 caps to date but may need to move elsewhere to make that step up to La Roja.

It was reported on Saturday that many clubs in Spain were keen on the powerful schemer. But Sport are suggesting that the Premier League could be his next destination.

Wolves enjoyed a solid Premier League campaign, finishing tenth. And that was despite taking just two points from their last seven games.
