Nick Pope or Martin Dubravka? Who Eddie Howe should choose as Newcastle United's No 1 next season
Newcastle United have wasted no time strengthening their defence this summer with three top class arrivals in recent weeks. The signing of Nick Pope is a welcomed addition and will provide much-needed competition for Martin Dubravka in the Magpies' goal.
However, the former Burnley man will also provide a selection headache for Eddie Howe as the Newcastle United boss decides which of his two highly-rated stoppers will take the No 1 jersey at St. James' Park.

Eddie Howe last week admitted he wanted two quality additions in every position ahead of the new Premier League season - and his wish has certainly been granted in between the sticks. It's a great headache for Howe to have but I don't envy the Newcastle United boss for having to pick a regular No 1 in the coming months.
For me, Dubravka has been a terrific servant to the Magpies and to strip him of the jersey at the start of next season would seem slightly unfair. I think he will be given a chance to prove he can keep Pope out of the side in the short-term but admittedly I think the former Burnley man will take over the reins in long-term.
It's certainly a big call for Eddie Howe in the opening round of games. Not least after Dubravka's agent has essentially said they may look elsewhere if he's not in the team before deadline day. Pope played in all of Burnley's games last season and is a fully fledged England international so he hasn't come here to sit on the bench.
