Another Hibs manager has bitten the dust. A short and rather blunt statement released this morning confirmed Nick Montgomery and his coaches, Sergio Raimundo and Miguel Miranda, had been relieved of their duties.

How many managers are Hibs going to go through? Surely there has to be a realisation it isn’t always the head coach or manager who is to blame. Either the Easter Road hierarchy are completely inept at making managerial appointments or the environment they are being put into is simply not right. Jack Ross got Hibs to a level but the club and fans wanted more. Since then they have reached nowhere near those dizzy heights.

Shaun Maloney, Lee Johnson and now Montgomery all tried and failed. Montgomery arrived with a decent track record in Australia. He won the A-League with Central Coast Mariners and with one of the lowest budgets. He played attacking football and more importantly developed and sold players to Europe for big money. He ticked all the boxes. Yet the Hibs fans didn’t want any of the West Coast names that had been linked.

They wanted something different and there weren’t many moans or grumbles when Montgomery was appointed. The former Scotland under-21 cap probably could have held out for a bigger and better gig but he knew the potential of the Hibs job. He walked into it with his eyes wide open, having been warned about many things that had and still are going on behind the scenes at Easter Road.
