Nick Foles signs with the Colts: Remembering the incredible 'Philly Special'

Nick Foles signing with the Indianapolis Colts makes it the perfect opportunity to relive the Philly Special from his days with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Whilst the Indianapolis Colts appear to have their starting quarterback taken care of this season in the form of Matt Ryan, who they traded a 3rd round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for, an experienced backup is always needed too.

Clearly they didn’t think that the likes of Sam Ehlinger or Jack Coan, both of whom are 23 years old, are in quite the position to steady the ship should Ryan go down for a few weeks, and so in comes Nick Foles.

Foles has had something of a weird career in the NFL ever since he came in as a 3rd round pick with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, he surprised a lot of people with his performances in 2013 when he threw for 27 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions, taking over from the injured Michael Vick that earned him the starting job there.

He bounced around with the then-St Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs for two years before returning to Philadelphia where he was once again a backup, this time to Carson Wentz.

Wentz and the Eagles certainly got on well together, having had a rough start in his rookie season, going 7-9 and finishing 4th in the NFC East, the second season was something special.

Having put up 33 touchdowns and over 3,000 passing yards and putting together an 11-2 record, with some saying he could be an MVP candidate, Wentz went down with an ACL injury that ruled him out, meaning Foles was once again promoted from backup to starter.
