Nick Dunlap bags Barracuda Championship to create PGA Tour history

American Nick Dunlap won the Barracuda Championship on Sunday to become the first player in PGA Tour history to win a title as an amateur and a pro in the same year.

The 20-year-old rallied over the weekend for a two-point win in the only event on the tour using the modified Stableford scoring format, with Vince Whaley filling the runner-up berth and Patrick Fishburn finishing third.

Dunlap scored 19 points in the tournament's final round on Sunday at the Tahoe Mountain Club, including seven birdies, each earning two points under the modified system, and an eagle, which added five points.

The University of Alabama student’s first PGA Tour win was in January when he became the first amateur to win an event in 33 years at The American Express in California.

"Never even thought that was a possibility, to be honest with you," Dunlap said of his unique double. "I gotta thank my team. They're so supportive.

"After Amex, kind of went through a little rough spell and they've always had my back and he's (caddie Hunter Hamrick) been there the entire time and I'm very happy to be here."

After Sunday’s win, Dunlap jumped from 95th to 63rd in the FedExCup rankings.
