NI midfielder Charlie McCann makes fist pump admission after scoring for Rangers at Blackpool

Northern Ireland midfielder Charlie McCann admits he had a celebration blank after scoring his first senior goal for Rangers in Saturday’s 2-1 friendly win at Blackpool.

Borna Barisic opened the scoring for the Old Firm giants just after the break before McCann made it 2-0 when he volleyed home the second 12 minutes from time.

It was an impressive finish from the 20-year-old midfielder who marked his strike with a modest fist pump in front of the large travelling support.

“To be honest I didn’t really know what to do when I scored, but it was a great feeling,” joked McCann on Rangers TV. “Obviously, it was a friendly but it felt great to get my first goal for this club.

“It was another chance to get some minutes and keep improving and I think we showed a lot more what we’re capable of with our intensity and good play on the ball.”

McCann, who recently switched from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland and was part of Ian Baraclough's senior squad in last month, has been a part of Gio van Bronckhorst’s plans in pre-season.

And he’ll be hoping for another chance to impress when Rangers face English Premier League club West Ham United in their next warm-up fixture at Ibrox on Tuesday night.

“It’s been really enjoyable and I’ve enjoyed it (pre-season),” said McCann. “Obviously, I’m learning a lot and getting a lot of help from the coaches and the players.

“It’s been really good and beneficial for me personally and as a group I think we’re in a good place and we’re getting better every day, so it’s all good.”
