NFL: Throwback to Mario Manningham's insane Super Bowl catch against the Patriots

Eli Manning’s throw to Mario Manningham in Super Bowl XLVI as the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots remains one of the best plays in NFL history. 

When you think of the names Eli Manning, New York Giants, New England Patriots and Super Bowl, there is a high chance that your first port of call will be the famous ‘Helmet catch’ that Manning threw to David Tyree during their matchup in Super Bowl XLII.

Whether it’s because of the craziness of the play itself, the fact that it played a part in ending the New England Patriots’ chances to end the season undefeated, or the fact that it took part so close to the end of the game that it felt that much more important, it is remembered as one of the most important and thought about plays in league history, not just Super Bowl history.

But there was a play during their rematch a few years later that is arguably an awful lot more impressive, and requires a lot more skill than it did luck, that isn’t mentioned as much.

Much like their game a few years previously, this was an incredibly tight affair all the way through, with the Patriots holding a 17-15 lead heading into the 4th quarter, a lead that they held into the final 5 minutes of the game before the Giants had one last chance to march down the field to win.

They had to start right back near their own endzone though, meaning they had to go more or less the entire length of the field to get themselves in position when they took the ball over.

One thing that would have helped them greatly was a huge play to take away a big chunk of yardage
