NFF never sacked Waldrum as Super Falcons coach, says Eguavoen

Head of Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee, Augustine Eguavoen, has said that the NFF did not at any time sack Super Falcons Coach, Randy Waldrum.

Eguavoen told The Guardian, yesterday, that the Falcons manager, after the team’s performance at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, should continue his work to build a formidable squad ahead the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and other international engagements.

He said: “NFF Technical Committee at this point is on a positive and healthy relationship with Waldrum. Everybody saw the fine performance of the Super Falcons at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“There is no doubt the coach had a good technical impact on the Super Falcons. I don’t understand were the sack of Waldrum is coming from because, to the best of my knowledge, NFF Technical Committee did not announce his sack officially.”

Equaveon added: “After Waldrum released the list of players that will take part in the Women’s Nations Cup qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe, we discussed on phone. He was supposed to settle the issues of his contract when he comes to Nigeria for the game against Sao Tome. Unfortunately, Sao Tome pulled out of the qualifiers.

“At that point, the Technical Committee needed to wait till another time the Super Falcons will play their next game to finalise the coach’s contract, which is coming very soon. We are in a good relationship with Waldrum. I can’t say how long his contract would be extended with the team until the Technical Committee meets with Waldrum,” he stated.
