Delta extend lead on medals table

Delta State athletes during the opening ceremony of the 7th National Youth Games in Asaba…yesterday.

Defending champions, Team Delta, is leaving up to its earlier boast of winning the Seventh National Youth Games on home soil.

As at yesterday morning, Team Delta was leading the table with 21 Gold, 14 Silver and nine Bronze.

Team Lagos was second on the table with 12 gold, nine silver and eight bronze, while Team Bayelsa and Edo are on third and fourth positions, with nine gold, two silver, six bronze and six gold, three silver and seven bronze medals, respectively.

Meanwhile, one aspect of the Games that is thrilling the athletes, coaches and officials is in the area of feeding.

In the build up to the Games, the Local Organising Committee headed by Chief Tonobok Okowa invited Caterers from Kaduna, Abuja, Ijebu Ode, Kwara, Lagos and other parts of the country to cook food for the athletes in their various camps.

Satisfied with the prompt attention given to them, some of the Caterers applaud the LOC and Delta State for their generosity in engaging them.

Those who spoke with The Guardian at the Westend Mixed Secondary School, Osadebe University, Asaba Technical College and St. Patrick’s College (SPC), urged other states to borrow a leaf from Delta State on how best to engage professionals during a national assignment.
