Neymar insists Cristiano Ronaldo proven right over Saudi Arabia transfer theory

Neymar insists that Cristiano Ronaldo has been proven right after the Brazilian forward completed his move to Al-Hilal.

Six years after his world-record move from Barcelona to PSG, Neymar has joined the growing list of players making the switch to Saudi Arabia. The Brazil captain, 31, was thought to not be in new PSG boss Luis Enqique’s plans, as the French club look to transition away from their ‘Galacticos’ era, and a £77.6m bid, plus add-ons, was accepted for the forward.

Earlier this summer, former Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo defended his decision to join Al-Nassr. Upon leaving United in November, the experienced forward, 38, became one of the first high-profile players to join the Saudi Pro League and vouched for its quality, amid Lionel Messi’s transfer to Inter Miami.

“The Saudi league is better than MLS,” Ronaldo said last month. “Now all the players are coming here. In one year, more top players will come to Saudi Arabia. I opened the way to the Saudi league, and now all the players are coming here.”

Neymar is joined at Al-Hilal by a host of new signings, including Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly, former Wolves captain Ruben Neves, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio. He also has two Brazilian teammates in former Barcelona winger Malcom and forward Michael.

Elsewhere, Saudi Arabian clubs have signed the likes of Karim Benzema, Riyad Mahrez, Sadio Mane, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and former United full-back Alex Telles. For Neymar, this is proof that Ronaldo was correct in his declaration about the growing quality of the league.
