Next Rangers manager hunt LIVE as Gerrard and Rohl named early frontrunners

The axe finally fell on Russell Martin last night – and now the hunt is on to see who will be next up in the Ibrox dugout.

The former centre-back's status as the club's worst ever manager was rubber-stamped with a dreary draw in Falkirk and, after he had to be snuck out of the stadium into a private car, Andrew Cavenagh finally decided enough was enough.

He'll likely want an ambitious appointment, and quickly, to appease a fan base that will now be directing their fury elsewhere.

The early favourites for the Rangers hotseat include the likes of Steven Gerrard, Kevin Muscat and Sean Dyche and it remains to be seen whether the Ibrox owners will go for another Martin-esque appointment or look further afield.

Of course, Dyche is being heavily tipped because under-fire sporting director Kevin Thelwell knows him from Everton.

The San Francisco 49ers and Cavenagh want the appointment made in time for their clash with Dundee United on October 18 and fans likely won't stand for another long, drawn-out interview process.

Ally McCoist has accused the new Rangers owners of underestimating the task at Rangers with the appointment of Russell Martin.
