Newmarket Guineas and Musselburgh tips plus best bets for Goodwood, Cheltenham and Newcastle

The first classic of the season is upon us with the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday but there's plenty of action before that with the first of three days of top racing taking place on Friday.

Our man Garry Owen has picked out his tips for the first day as well as the other UK meetings, including Musselburgh and Cheltenham. We'll be running a live blog for the 2000 Guineas so don't forget to follow every furlong with us.

CASTLE WAY (1.15) can give Charlie Appleby more glory at his local venue in the Newmarket Stakes. The colt ended his juvenile career by hammering One World in a red-hot nursery over track and trip. Team Godolphin’s raider should be even better at three so he can dispose of some promising rivals.

Appleby should make it three with MAJESTIC PRIDE (2.325) in the King Charles II Stakes. The colt looked ready to tackle Listed level after outbattling Holguin on his comeback at this venue.

FINAL WATCH (3.00) can cut his rivals down to size for Willie Stone in the Nyetimber Handicap. The gelding will be primed after his fine comeback fourth to Rebel Territory in a similar event here.

WEST WIND BLOWS (3.35) can breeze home for Team Crisford in the Jockey Club Stakes. The colt should improve for the return to 1m 4f after his excellent third to Anmaat at Longchamp.

VITARLI (1.30) can claim a fascinating novices’ event at Goodwood for thriving Craig Lidster. The two-year-old rates a sure-fire improver after just denying the promising Anfaal at Beverley.

Roger Charlton’s TIME LOCK (2:05) can continue her rapid rise
