Newcomer Declan Glass shines brightly as Derry City breeze past Oliver Bond Celtic in the FAI Cup

Midfielder Declan Glass produced a man of the match display to ensure Derry City easily defeated junior side Oliver Bond Celtic 7-0.

The Edinburgh native, who only signed on loan from Dundee United on Friday, scored a 15 minute hat-trick and looked a threat throughout the Extra.ie FAI Cup tie. The home side broke the deadlock on eight minutes with that man Glass feeding James Akintunde and the striker calmly side-footed home from just outside the box.

Derry scored a second on 24 minutes as the impressive Glass ghosted into the Celtic box to latch onto Patrick McEleney's clever pass, before drilling the ball home from the right hand side of the six-yard box.

Glass netted his second moments later this time with his left foot, firing past goalkeeper Jake Carey from just inside the box, after Sadou Diallo had set him up.

Just after the half-hour mark Akintunde broke the offside trap, but his attempted chip over Carey, which had the keeper beaten, came back off the crossbar. Soon after the woodwork again denied Derry as Ciaran Coll's powerful header smacked the post.

However, City were awarded a penalty moments later after Brandon Kavanagh was brought down and Glass completed his hat-trick, making no mistake with the resulting spot-kick.

Derry grabbed a fifth on 62 minutes as Patrick McEleney's sublime flick released Michael Duffy, who marked his return from injury against Riga in the Europa Conference League this month, and the substitute's close range strike was saved by Carey, but Akintunde was on hand to turn home the rebound.

The home side scored a sixth as Dallas' left wing centre found fellow debutant Mark Connolly at the back post and he coolly side-footed home from close range.
