Newcastle won't meet £50m St. James' Park star's wage demands

Newcastle United do not see Allan Saint-Maximin as their “main man” moving forward, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Saint-Maximin has become a fans’ favourite since arriving at St James’ Park in 2019, but he could be set to leave the club this summer.

The 25-year-old has been a key player for the Magpies this season, helping them move clear of the relegation zone in recent months.

Indeed, he was one of the main players to stand up and be counted in the first part of the season when Newcastle were struggling badly. According to WhoScored, Saint-Maximin has been the side’s second-best performer this term, receiving an average match rating of 7.10.

However, it has been reported that Newcastle are open to offloading the pacy winger this summer if they receive an offer around the £50m mark.

Shedding some more light on Saint-Maximin’s situation at Newcastle, Jones has revealed that the forward wants to be paid more and be regarded as the team’s main player. The North-East club see things differently, though.

“But, Newcastle don’t really see it that way going forward, and they’re not planning to meet the demands that he wants.”

Despite Newcastle being taken over by a Saudi-backed consortium in October, who have plenty of money to spend, it still seemed likely that Saint-Maximin would remain a very important player at the club for some time.

Therefore, it has come as somewhat of a shock that Newcastle could move him on in the next few months.
