Newcastle United winners and losers after transfer window including Ryan Fraser and Ciaran Clark

The January transfer window has now slammed shut and it proved to be a busy month for Newcastle United as Eddie Howe strengthen his squad with five additions.

There was plenty of anticipation going into the winter market given the wealth of the Magpies' new Saudi-led owners but it gave them their first chance to stamp their authority on the club.

It was reported that Howe had £100million to spend and they finished at 11pm on Monday night having used around £93million of that budget on new signings - £7million shy of what the Magpies were willing to splash.

Newcastle fans will be hoping this investment can help them stay in the Premier League but they do currently sit inside the bottom three, a point behind 17th-place Norwich City ahead of their final 17 matches.

Despite Newcastle's league position, the excitement around the owners' ambitions was always going to make the Mapgies an attractive proposition for any player.
