Newcastle United transfer rumours as Dominic Calvert-Lewin leads list of Magpies striker targets

There is no secret that Newcastle are heading into the transfer market with another striker on the shopping list. Darwin Nunez was initially understood to be the top target but his Champions League aspirations – as well as the teams who are interested in him – made the Magpies reassess their options.

According to The Telegraph, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now the first choice on a list of forwards that also includes Ivan Toney. Eddie Howe has been keen to bring proven Premier League talent to St James’ Park so far and either of those would continue the stream of players being signed with English top-flight experience.

Although, both Everton and Brentford will want to keep hold of their marquee strikers so any potential deal would use up a large chunk of the reported transfer budget this summer.

Arrivals will understandably dominate the agenda on Tyneside in the next few months but there will have to be some departures to make room in the squad.
