Newcastle United transfer rumours as Scamacca looks elsewhere and Jamal Lewis offered lifeline

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Sunday, April 3.

With the lack of Champions League football or proven capability in the Premier League, Newcastle United are going to struggle to recruit a top-class striker - or two - this summer. And the task may have just got harder.

For a while it has been believed that Newcastle United have an eye on Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca, who plays for Sassuolo. So far this season he's scored 13 goals in 28 appearances for them in Serie A.

As a proven goalscorer he has attracted attention, including from Arsenal. However, according to TeamTalk he has agreed personal terms with Inter Milan.

The report adds however, that although he wants to stay in Italy, Sassuolo are believed to be asking for £34m, a struggle for Inter Milan these days. Which may leave some leverage for Newcastle United.

A move to Middlesbrough would seem preferable to his current situation. Added to that, at the time of writing Middlesbrough are well-placed for the play-offs, which could see him back in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old midfielder is contracted to French side Dijon, but was loaned out to Turkish team Yeni Malatyaspor
