Newcastle United pre-season 2022/23: Schedule, fixtures, tickets and more

Having secured their place in the Premier League for the 2022/23 season, Newcastle United are gearing up for pre-season preparations over the coming weeks.

The Magpies have not been on a summer tour since 2019 when they visited China for the Premier League Asia Trophy, but they spent two winter training camps in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates during the league’s winter break.

The global pandemic stopped the Toon Army from travelling for pre-season training in 2020 as they had to settle for a series of friendlies behind closed doors.

Last summer, however, United supporters were more involved when the club played Doncaster, Burton Albion, and Rotherham.

Eddie Howe’s men will now play in three confirmed friendlies abroad and as well in their annual home friendly at St James’ Park. Here’s everything you need to know as Newcastle prepares for the new season.

Newcastle United was scheduled to travel to the United States in July to compete in the inaugural Ohio Cup in Cincinnati and Columbus, but the tournament was cancelled.

There has also been no word on who will be in the NUFC first-team squad for the summer pre-season.

A week before the start of the new season, the Magpies will host a double-header against European opposition at St. James’ Park, first hosting Italian club Atalanta and then welcoming Spanish side Athletic Bilbao.Eddie Howe, the head coach, is expected to split his first-team squad between the two games.
