Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi's brilliant message to new signing Nick Pope

Newcastle United made England international Nick Pope their second signing of the summer transfer window this week. Pope joined the Magpies on a four-year deal for a fee thought to be around the £12m mark and will compete with incumbent goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for a spot between the sticks at St James' Park.

While Newcastle did not need to necessarily strengthen the goalkeeping options, the signing of Pope is a shrewd one. Pope is a proven Premier League shot stopper and will likely improve Newcastle on the pitch.

The 30-year-old becomes Newcastle's second signing of the summer window after Matt Targett. And Pope has been welcomed to the club already be Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi, who tweeted "Welcome to the best club in the world Nick" after the Magpies confirmed the signing.

Ghodoussi's positive message to Pope was re-affirmed by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

"Nick is an exceptional Premier League and international level goalkeeper so I'm very pleased to be adding strong competition to a very important position," said Howe.

"There has been a lot of interest in him from other clubs this summer, so I'd like to thank our owners and everyone behind the scenes for getting us ahead of the competition. I'm delighted he is joining us as we prepare for the exciting challenge ahead."
