Newcastle United news: Javier Manquillo update as fixtures moved once again

Your Newcastle evening headlines for Wednesday, February 23.

Javier Manquillo has returned to training following the ankle injury he suffered in the 1-0 win against Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old missed last weekend’s trip to the London Stadium, with supporters fearing the worst after already losing Kieran Trippier for up to eight weeks.

However, Toon fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the official club website posted snaps of the Spaniard back in action and training alongside his teammates.

Newcastle’s home clash with Wolves and their trip to Spurs will be broadcast on television.

The Premier League today announced their TV schedule for April, with both games set to be shown on Sky Sports.

This means the Magpies will be on the big screen twice in a week as they head to the capital on April 3 before entertaining Wolves at St James’ Park on April 8.

Newcastle lost the reverse fixture against both clubs back in October and will want to exert revenge during the business end of the campaign.

Olivier Bernard has opened up to ChronicleLive about the heartbreak he felt after Newcastle’s failed Premier League bid in 2002/03.

The Magpies were title contenders almost two decades ago but three consecutive defeats in April saw Sir Bobby Robson’s side finish 14 points behind eventual winners Man Utd.

Former left-back Bernard - who still lives in the North East - rues the missed opportunity to this day, with Newcastle still searching for that long-awaited trophy.
