Newcastle United news: Fernandez return provides boost plus latest on Saint-Maximin injury

Your Newcastle evening headlines for Thursday, February 24.

Federico Fernandez has been photographed in action at Darsley Park for the first time under Eddie Howe this calendar year.

The 33-year-old is yet to start under the Magpies new boss but was named on the bench during last weekend's 1-1 draw with the Hammers.

Fernandez has been out of action with a thigh injury since December but will provide a boost for the side given their recent injury woes.

United have since added Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion last month and have clawed out of the relegation places in recent weeks as they continue their bid to remain in the Premier League this season.

Allan Saint-Maximin has provided Newcastle fans with an update surrounding his own recent injury setback.

The 24-year-has been arguably the Magpies most important player thus far this season and has taken to Instagram to explain how his 'rehab is in progress'.

With the injury not seen as 'serious' by the club heading into the last knockings of the 21/22 campaign, the Toon Army will no doubt hope to see the charismatic winger back in action sooner rather than later.

Almiron was one of the most expensive signings of the Mike Ashley era and at 28-years-old the forward should be entering into some of his best years as a professional.
