£30m Newcastle duo 'haven't improved' under Eddie Howe

Newcastle United duo Miguel Almiron and Dwight Gayle are two players who have not improved at St James’ Park under Eddie Howe, claims Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Since Howe’s arrival in November, several members of the Magpies’ squad have got better, but Downie does not think Almiron and Gayle fall into that bracket.

Both Almiron and Gayle would like to be having better seasons. The former has been getting some game time, albeit not too much under Howe of late, but has failed to make much of an impact.

In 21 league appearances, he has been unable to muster up a single goal or assist. As for the latter, he has barely played and is also yet to score in this campaign.

With there still games to play, though, Almiron and Gayle will be hoping that they can turn things around just as Joelinton and Ryan Fraser have.

Joelinton and Fraser are two players who have undoubtedly stepped up since Howe has come in, with the Brazilian and Scotsman recently coming in for praise from Newcastle legend Alan Shearer for their improvement.

Downie thinks £20m Almiron and £10m Gayle are two individuals Howe has not managed to improve yet, though the Sky Sports journalist has also highlighted the fact that neither have seen too much game time under the 44-year-old.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Downie said: “There’s very few [who haven’t improved], perhaps maybe Almiron, who hasn’t had much of a chance, and Dwight Gayle, who’s not been seen yet since he arrived.”
