Newcastle: 'No substance' - Eddie Howe won't bring £20m star to St. James' Park

Newcastle United are not plotting a summer move which will see Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez head to St James’ Park in the summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Eddie Howe, who was appointed as the Magpies’ head coach last November, will be given the opportunity to splash the cash when the transfer window reopens.

According to The Sun, Newcastle are preparing to make a £20million bid for Sanchez, with Howe keen to make the Brighton shot-stopper his first choice option between the sticks.

The report suggests the Magpies chief is desperate to sign another goalkeeper and one-cap Spain international Sanchez, who has been watched by Newcastle scouts, has emerged as Howe’s preferred choice to target in the summer.

It is not the first time where Howe has looked to raid Brighton, having also paid £13million to snatch Dan Burn away from the Amex Stadium on deadline day of the January window.

However, it appears it will be tough to acquire Sanchez as it is understood that Brighton have no interest in sanctioning his departure.

That should come as no surprise as Seagulls boss Graham Potter has previously described Sanchez as a ‘monster’ between the sticks.

Also, Sanchez’s £18,000-per-week contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2025, meaning Brighton are not in a rush to cash-in.

Downie told GIVEMESPORT: “I’ve been
