Newcastle: Eddie Howe has 'moved on' from £18m star at St James' Park

Newcastle United could move on from Manchester United attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Magpies attempted to prise the 29-year-old away from Old Trafford in January but were unwilling to match the financial demands made by Ralf Rangnick’s charges.

According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils insisted on receiving a £12 million ‘survival bonus’ for Lingard if Newcastle managed to avoid relegation this season.

And the winter acquisitions have proved to be astute signings as the St. James’ Park outfit are now sitting pretty in the top half of the Premier League table, 14 points clear of the relegation zone.

That has not stopped several star names from being linked with moves to Newcastle, though, but it remains to be seen if they will revive their interest in Lingard.

Lingard, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, is set to become a free agent when his current United contract expires over the summer, yet Downie believes he was only a ‘short-term’ target for Howe.
