Newcastle: Howe now wants 18-year-old 'talent' at St James' Park

Newcastle United have set their sights on signing ‘young players’ and Central Coast Mariners starlet Garang Kuol would be a shrewd investment at St James’ Park, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Magpies spent more than £120million during the summer transfer window, but it appears head coach Eddie Howe has set his sights on attracting further reinforcements to Tyneside.

It appears that Newcastle are on the brink of signing Kuol as it has emerged that an agreement in principle has been reached for the Central Cost Mariners man to officially join on January 1.

Although the switch has not been rubber-stamped yet, the striker is due to head to St James’ Park for talks over personal terms and he will be loaned to a European club, with plenty of outfits showing an interest.

It is understood that plans are in place for Kuol to be shipped out to a Portuguese club for the remainder of the campaign if they get the deal over the line.

The 18-year-old has reportedly already agreed a four-year contract which will see him earn £25,000-per-week at Newcastle.

Borussia Dortmund have also been among the sides interested in Kuol, who is battling it out for a place in Australia’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

Downie has been given rave reviews by Kuol’s team-mates ahead of a potential move to Newcastle.

The Sky Sports reporter believes the Magpies’ fight to acquire the teenager’s services shows Howe is keen on drafting in up-and-coming stars as well as experienced big names.

Downie told GIVEMESPORT: “I actually know a couple of the lads over there who play alongside him.

“They say this guy is a really, really, really good player. As well as the top talent Newcastle are looking at, they want to bring in young players.”
