Newcastle have now had 'discussions' to sign £60m-rated 'crown jewel' - journalist

Newcastle United have reportedly now had ‘discussions’ over a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin before the January transfer window shuts.

After the signing of Chris Wood from Burnley earlier on in the month, it seems as if the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium now want to bring another striker to St. James’ Park.

Callum Wilson is expected to be out until March, and considering the Magpies have managed just 21 goals in 21 top flight matches this season another goalscorer certainly wouldn’t go amiss.

Alvaro Morata and Eddie Nketiah are the latest names to be linked with a move to the North East, in what promises to be an exciting next few days for the Toon Army, with yet another target now emerging.

As per The Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, Calvert-Lewin has been part of ‘recruitment discussions’ on Tyneside this week, and both Newcastle and Arsenal could target him in the next couple of days:

“EFC braced for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be targeted by clubs.

“England forward has been part of recruitment discussions at NUFC this week, Arsenal hold a long-term interest.”

It seems that a deal to bring Calvert-Lewin to the Magpies in such little time would be a very difficult one to do.

Some reports have quoted Everton’s asking price as high as £60m for their star man, and it would be hard for them to find an adequate replacement in such a short space of time, making it extremely unlikely they would opt to cash in.

Described as their ‘crown jewel‘ by Rio Ferdinand, there is no doubt that Calvert-Lewin is perhaps the Goodison Park faithful’s most important player, emphasised by his goal tally for them, especially over the last three seasons.

Nonetheless, this is one that may prove a step too far for the new owners
