Newcastle: Exciting 19-year-old 'fits perfectly' at St James' Park

Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson could fit in ‘perfectly’ to Eddie Howe’s midfield, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a promising start to the season after being made part of the first-team squad, sparking excitement over what the future could hold for him.

Anderson recently put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Newcastle after making four appearances in the opening weeks of the current campaign.

“We are all delighted with Elliot’s development,” said Howe. “He is a natural talent, but he also has an excellent work ethic and always wants to learn.

“I know our supporters will be especially pleased to see another local boy coming through from the Academy into the first team. Elliot has earned that chance, and he has set a great example to our young players.”

Anderson rose through the youth ranks at his boyhood club before being handed his senior debut against Arsenal in the FA Cup back in January 2021.

The teenager then starred on loan at Bristol Rovers in the second half of last term, scoring the crucial goal that saw the Pirates promoted from League Two on the final day of the season.

When asked about Anderson’s potential, Downie told GiveMeSport: “So, it’s hard to tell who he is like.

“It looks to me like, I know people are saying he’s a winger, but it looks to me like he could probably be a decent central midfielder; a number eight.

“And in that formation that Howe plays, the 4-3-3, I could see him fitting in perfectly to one of the wider midfield positions in the three.

“So, it certainly looks as though he’s a confident lad, and it looks like he isn’t
