Newcastle could have 'persuaded' £58m star over St James' Park move

Newcastle United may have been able to persuade Christian Pulisic to join the club if they had ‘pushed harder’, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Magpies were linked with a move for the 24-year-old over the summer as he searched for regular game time but ultimately decided against making a formal approach for his services.

Back in August, The Athletic revealed that Newcastle’s new owners, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, were eyeing up several of Chelsea’s fringe stars as potential loan targets in the final weeks of the transfer window.

The same outlet then stated that the west London outfit decided to ‘refuse permission’ for those temporary deals to be explored, instead deciding to keep the USA international at the club.

It was claimed that Pulisic, who has just under two years left to run on his current contract, was willing to extend his terms with Chelsea in order to make a loan move more palatable for them.

Furthermore, it is believed that the versatile attacker spoke with his compatriot and new Blues owner Todd Boehly over his desire to find a club where he would be guaranteed regular game time.

Yet Pulisic’s pleas fell on deaf ears, and now he will surely be eager to revive his career at Stamford Bridge following the departure of former manager Thomas Tuchel.

Jacobs believes that Newcastle may have been able to persuade Pulisic to join their ongoing revolution if they had made a firmer stance over the summer.
