Newcastle could make more than £4m if Clark is sold

Ciaran Clark is expected to leave Newcastle United this summer after falling down the pecking under Eddie Howe and being omitted from their Premier League squad in January.

The 32-year-old hasn’t played for the Magpies since January’s 1-0 win over Leeds United and Luke Edwards of the Telegraph says he will be granted a departure if offers come.

Clark joined Newcastle from Aston Villa in 2016 and has gone on to make 129 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals with four assist. The Republic of Ireland was a regular when fit, but injuries have led to him missing a lot of games in his six seasons.

Clark started 10 of Newcastle’s first 12 Premier League games, but after getting suspended, putting in a poor performance in the Magpies 4-0 defeat to Manchester City, and then getting Coronavirus, he found himself behind Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Jamaal Lascelles.

With 12 months remaining on his deal and no contract extension on the horizon, the obvious option is to cash in now while he still has value. Clark earns £35k-per-week/£1.8m-a-year in wages and has a market value of £2.25m, so Newcastle could make £4m back if they find a suitor for the 6ft 2in man this summer.

In other news, Newcastle could make £4.1m offloading Matt Ritchie this summer
